The first thing I’m going to write about is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time: digital photography. Last year I bought a camera from an online retailers that came out to about $80. Needless to say, it sucked. Hardcore. The flash wasn’t timed with the shutter, rendering it completely useless at night. And that’s just the start…

This camera (an off-brand Chinese one on sale at TigerDirect), may be one of the worst digital cameras in existence. It’s sensor couldn’t handle the sun, pictures tended to be blurry and unfocused, flash didn’t work at all and to top it all off, it ran off AAA batteries. Everyone knows that AAA batteries are the biggest pain in the ass of all the types of batteries, except for maybe watch batteries. But who honestly ever needs watch batteries?

My experiences with this camera over the past year made me realize something. I need to lay down the money for a real camera. Something that will actually inspire me to take pictures. So, naturally, I headed to blacks.ca. After much intense research I have decided on the Nikon Coolpix S200.

I went with this one for a few reasons. One: it fits my budget of $200-$350. Two: it is nice and slim and will fit in my pocket for spur of the moment shots. Three: it boots up quickly for shots on the go. Four: image stabilization for my shaky hands. With this camera I’m hoping to make digital photography a hobby of mine, and hopefully fill up a Flikr account full of pictures. I plan on traveling a lot in my lifetime, and I want the ability to capture what I see all over the world. Next Friday is the day I plan on picking this baby up, and I’ll do a full review on the camera from a digital camera noob’s perspective.
